Salmon Arm, B.C. — The Salmon Arm Silverbacks are pleased to announce that broadcaster and communications coordinator Nathan Kanter has signed a two-year extension with the team.

Kanter has been the play-by-play voice of the Backs for the past two seasons.

“We are thrilled to have Nathan continuing his time in Salmon Arm. He has played a large role in the strong direction our organization is heading,” Silverbacks general manager and operations manager Brooks Christensen said. “Nathan has continued to grow and adapt both on air and digitally. The feedback from our players families, sponsors and fans is a big testament to the work he has done. Our social media presence has also taken a massive step and still has lots of potential to grow under his guidance. ”

Kanter joined the Silverbacks ahead of the 2019-20 season, after two seasons as the voice of the Battlefords North Stars in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), where he was a broadcaster as well as a sports journalist for BattlefordsNOW.com and 1050 CJNB. Before his time in the Prairies, the Toronto, Ont. native graduated from Western University in London, Ont. with a master’s in journalism and then served as the Digital Managing Editor at the Western Gazette, the school’s campus newspaper.

“While my first two seasons in Salmon Arm have been unique due to the pandemic, I have thoroughly enjoyed working for such a great organization and living in such an amazing city. I am pleased to have the opportunity to keep honing my craft for the Silverbacks,” Kanter said. “I would like to extend a massive thank you to the Silverbacks ownership team and Brooks Christensen for believing in me; to Tyler Shattock, Carter Cochrane, Brodie St. Jacques and the players for always accommodating me; and of course to the fans for their awesome support. I’m extremely excited to see the damage this team can do on the ice next season.”
