Silverbacks damp the Smoke Eaters, 2-1

Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks wrapped up the weekend at Rogers Rink against the Trail Smoke Eaters, finishing off back-to-back games.

The Silverbacks get off to a hot start in this first period. Just past halfway through the period, the Silverbacks lead a rush in the offensive zone with Liam Bursaw tapping home a loose puck in the crease for his 6th of the season, 1-0. Three minutes later, on the powerplay, Bursaw again grabs the puck in the right face off dot and riffles it by the pads for his second of the game and his team leading 7th of the year, 2-0 Silverbacks.

No scoring in a fairly even back-and-forth second period. The Silverbacks had one powerplay opportunity to end the period but are unable to capitalize. Trail led the shots on goal in the second period, 12-8.

The Smoke Eaters look to even the game but fall just seconds short. Halfway through the third period, Christian Kim winds up and picks the top corner to cut into the lead, 2-1. Trail pulls their goalie in the final minute and a half as their offense turns things up, pushing to tie the game. Some massive saves by Daniel Dirracolo preserve the win for the Silverbacks.

Dirracolo gets his 6th win of the year, stopping 25/26 shots.
