Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks hosted the Trail Smoke Eaters for game one of a back-to-back weekend at Rogers Rink.
The Smoke Eaters offense comes to play in the first period. In the first two minutes, Cash Carter rips home the puck for the early Trail lead, 1-0. Nearly the whole period goes by before Trail strikes again, Cade De St. Hubert finds the back of the net for the 2-0 lead. Less than a minute later, the waves on momentum on Trails side, Brayden Rotach scores his first BCHL goal to extend the lead further, 3-0. Before the opening frame is over, Maddux Martin snipes one into the twine to cut into the lead in the final 30 seconds, Martin’s 3rd of the year, 3-1.
Neither team scores in the second. The Silverbacks were tasked with back-to-back penalty kills in the middle frame when Jack Toogood gets sent to the box for a tripping penalty and then Aidan Shirey gets called for high sticking. Shots on goal in the second period were 10-8 for the Silverbacks.
The comeback effort falls short in the third period. In the first three minutes, Koen Senft gets the puck at the right faceoff dot and sneaks in through the goalie for his 2nd of the year, making it a one goal game, 3-2. In the final minute, the Silverbacks pull the goalie looking to tie up the game but it’s Cade De St. Hubert who lobs it full ice into the empty net to finish the game 4-2.
Despite the loss, Daniel Dirracolo stopped 23/26 shots faced.
