Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks hosted the Spruce Grove Saints at Rogers Rink to wrap up the weekend.

The Silverbacks take the lead after a back-and-forth opening period. Getting an early powerplay opportunity, the Silverbacks aren’t able to take advantage but 10 seconds after it expires, Keifer Miller finds the back of the net, his 6th of the year. It’s Millers second straight game scoring the first goal. Past the halfway mark, Aidan Fisher would take a double minor high sticking penalty sending the Saints to their first powerplay of the game. Declan Waddick will capitilize and riffle home a wide open goal to tie it up, 1-1. In the final two minutes, Jack Toogood hammers home a rebound for his first BCHL goal, giving the Silverbacks the lead once again, 2-1.

Another close period sees Salmon Arm widen the lead. A two-on-one rush into the offensive zone has Mateu Späth center a puck for a tip in goal by Brady Logue, his 4th of the year, 3-1. Four minutes later, Felix Haibock tips in a point shot for Spruce Grove, getting them back to within one, 3-2. With two and a half minutes left in the middle frame, the Saints take a boarding penalty, giving a dangerous Silverbacks powerplay another look. Cole Longacre will take the puck from the goalie, Maverick Avent, and go end-to-end and absolutely pick the top corner perfectly to extend the lead, 4-2, with his 2nd of the year. The Silverbacks out shot the Saints 14-5 in the second period.

Finishing off the game with adding a much needed insurance goal. With five minutes left, Michael Azzarone snaps one into the net for another Saints goal, cutting back into the lead looking for a late comeback, 4-3. Before the Saints could pull the goalie, they take a penalty, handing the Silverbacks a powerplay with two and a half minutes left in the game. It’s Cole Lonagacre again striking on the powerplay, his second man advantage goal of the game with a wrister from the point, 5-3.

Maverick Avent gets his revenge on the Saints and his second win of the season, stopping 21/24 shots.
