Silverbacks play hero in 3-2 OT win over the Vees

Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks looked to extend their winning ways at home against the Penticton Vees.

The first period was a feeling out process for both teams. Matthew Biotti took the lone penalty in the first period for hooking, which the Silverbacks couldn’t capitalize on. The Silverbacks outshot the Vees 13-5 in the opening frame.

Both teams found the back of the net in the second, which the Vees took the lead. Halfway through the period, Maddux Martin finished off a scramble in front of the net to give the Silverbacks the lead. Three minutes later, Callum Arnott got a drop pass from Thomas Pichette which he was able to finish to tie up the game. The Vees didn’t stop there as James Fisher snipes the top corner to grab the lead, 2-1.

The Silverbacks complete part one of the comeback in the third period. Halfway through the period, Matthew Biotti went back to the box for holding, giving the Silverbacks another man advantage. Right off the draw, Cole Cooksey riffled one in to tie up the game 1-1. The Silverbacks killed off a huge penalty with Reid Varkonyi in the penalty box for high-sticking. This game needed overtime.

Nearly the whole ten minute 3-on-3 went by in the sudden death overtime frame before the Silverbacks had an overtime hero. Patrick Raftery finished off a two-on-one to win the game for the Silverbacks. It was Raftery’s first career BCHL goal to win the game.

Eli Pulver got his fourth win of the season against the Vees, stopping 29/31.
