Silverbacks fall in a nailbiter, 5-4 to the Vipers

Salmon Arm, B.C. –  The Salmon Arm Silverbacks continued their weekend on the road against the Vernon Vipers.

Both teams found the back of the net a couple of times in the first period. Just past halfway through, Luke Pakulak grabs a rebound and throws it into the back of the net for the Vipers lead. Off the draw, Tanner Walos gets called for interference, sending the Vipers to the powerplay for the first time. On the powerplay, Julian Facchinelli floated one through traffic from the point to extend the lead to 2-0. In the final 2 minutes, the Silverbacks had an offensive zone faceoff win which Cole Cooksey rocketed right off the draw to make it 2-1. Ten seconds later, Tristan Allen led a rush and then finished off the rebound to tie up the game.

Once again each team was able to find the back of the net twice in the second period. Five minutes in, Filip Krajcik scored his first career BCHL with a shot from the point. Halfway through the frame, the Silverbacks get there first powerplay of the game, which Cole Cooksey gets his second goal on with a perfectly placed snipe to the top corner. Answering quickly was the Vipers to regain their lead when Connor Elliot beat the goalie to the glove side. The Silverbacks tied up the game with less than a second left in the middle frame. Marcus Broberg and Ryan Gillespie went down the ice two-on-one with Gillespie sliding the puck in as the buzzer was sounding to tie the game.

The Vipers will themselves to the nailbiter win. The third period started with some physicality when Maddux Martin and Nick Mikan drop the gloves for a fight, resulting in both getting a game misconduct. Just when it looked like this game was heading to overtime, Julian Facchinelli scored his second of the game with 44 second left to win it.

In the lose, Ryan Grout made 35/40 saves.
