Silverbacks finish off weekend sweep in Cranbrook, 2-1

Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks wrapped up a weekend series on the road against the Cranbrook Bucks.

The Bucks get on the board for the first time over the weekend and take the lead early in the first period. Within the first couple of minutes, Isaac Lambert was called for a double-minor high-stick, sending the Bucks to the powerplay for the first time. On the man advantage, Jack Silich finished off a two-on-one rush for the Bucks early lead, 1-0. Each team traded penalties to finish off the opening frame.

The Silverbacks take the lead in the second period. Nine minutes in, Maddux Martin leads an odd-man rush down the ice but elects to rip it glove hand side to tie up the game, 1-1. With a minute and a half left, Lambert and Jaden Fodchuk get tangled up behind the play, resulting in four-on-four action. In the last minute of the middle frame, Cole Cooksey takes a drop pass, cuts to the slot, and snipes one top corner to grab the lead, 2-1.

A back-and-forth third period sees the Silverbacks hold onto the lead. JJ Monteiro grabbed the only penalty in the final frame when he was sent off for a trip at the 7:38 mark, which the Silverbacks were able to kill off.

Ryan Grout got the start and made 28/29 saves in the win, securing the weekend sweep for the Silverbacks.
