Silverbacks get revenge over Trail, 4-1

Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks welcomed in the Trail Smoke Eaters looking for revenge.

The Silverbacks jump out to an early lead. Three minutes in, off an offensive zone faceoff, Cole Cooksey grabs the rebound and finds the back of the net. Ryan Philbrick got the assist for his first career BCHL point in his first career BCHL game. The Silverbacks would have a couple of powerplay opportunities the rest of the frame but were unable to take advantage.

In the second period, the Silverbacks were able to add to the lead. At the 12:28 mark, a scrum broke out in the crease of the Trail net. Frustrations would see the Smoke Eaters goalie, Teagan Kendrick, kick a Silverback on the ice, resulting in a five-minute major and a game misconduct. On the extended man advantage, the Captain, Nathan Mackie tipped home a point shot for a 2-0 lead. Four minutes later, still on the powerplay, Cole Longacre starts the rush in his own end, has a give-and-go with Patrick Raftery, then finishes off the play to make it 3-0.

Trail strikes back in the third but not enough time as the Silverbacks ice the game. Nearly halfway through the third period, Christian Kim gets a drop pass in the high slot and fires it into the twine to break the shutout and make it a 3-1 game. Coming out of the media timeout, tempers flared once again for both teams as Tanner Walos and Nathan Dominici drop the gloves and get five for fighting and a game misconduct. With two minutes left and the Smoke Eaters trying to pull the goalie, Cole Cooksey lead a two-on-one rush up the ice and decides to take it himself and snipe the top corner for his second of the game and the 4-1 lead.

Eli Pulver made 24/25 saves in the win.
