Silverbacks sneak out a wild 1-0 overtime win against Cranbrook

Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks hit the road looking to win the first of back-to-back games against the Cranbrook Bucks.

A scoreless first period saw the Bucks have the lone opportunity of the frame. Five minutes in, Patrick Raftery got called for a hooking penalty, which the Silverbacks were able to kill off. The Silverbacks outshot the Bucks 15-11.

Both offenses still struggled to find the net in the second period. Nathaniel Davis got called for interference, giving the Silverbacks their second penalty kill of the night. After the media timeout, Loke Södergren was called for a hold, which sent the Silverbacks to the powerplay, but were unable to take advantage. Shots on goal after the second was 28-23 for Salmon Arm.

This game needed more time as no team scored in the third period. Neither team took a penalty either. Shots on goal after the final frame was 39-35 for the Silverbacks.

The Silverbacks had a chance to win the game early in overtime but couldn’t take advantage until the final 14 seconds. In the first 30 seconds of extra time, Nick Capasso tripped Tristen Allen to give the Silverbacks the four-on-three advantage. In the final minute of overtime, the Cranbrook Bucks risked it all by pulling their goalie to push for the game winner with a man advantage. JJ Monteiro collected the puck in front of his own net and launched the puck down the length of the ice for the empty net goal.

Eli Pulver got his tenth career shutout, stopping 42/42.
