Silverbacks fall 5-4 to West Kelowna

Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks were in West Kelowna to take on the Warriors.

Both teams found the net in a busy first period. Five minutes in, Michael Salandra finished a two-on-one passing play to get the Warriors on the board early. Three minutes later, Callum Hughes snuck behind the defenseman for a breakaway but got hooked, drawing a rare penalty shot. Salandra was elected to take the shot and buried it for the 2-0 lead. At 9:40, Brennan Nelson was called for a hook, sending the Silverbacks to the powerplay for the first time. With the man advantage, Tanner Walos collected the puck and sent one top corner for his first career BCHL goal. A few minutes later, while shorthanded, with Viggo Nordström in the box, Felix Caron scored a short handed goal. On the same powerplay, Reid Varkonyi snaps one by to make it a 3-2 game. Seven seconds later, right off the draw, Callum Hughes sniped one top corner.

The Silverbacks inch closer to a comeback in the second period. Cole Cooksey scores his 11th of the season to cut the lead to one, 4-3.

The Warriors iced home the game while the Silverbacks comeback fell short. A couple minutes in, Isaiah Norlin floated one in from the point to make it back a two goal game. In the final three minutes the Silverbacks got some life when Tristan Allen shot one through traffic to make it a one goal game.

Eli Pulver made 28/33 saves in the losing effort.
