Silverbacks Thankful For Two Wins

SALMON ARM, B.C. OCTOBER 8, 2016 – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks will sit down for Thanksgiving dinner satisfied they grabbed a pair of much needed wins this weekend. The S’Backs downed the Surrey Eagles 6-3  Saturday night following a 5-3 win over West Kelowna on Friday Evening.

The Silverbacks came out flying against the Surrey Eagles in the opening period, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes of play. Jared Turcotte, Grayson Constable and Marcus Mitchell all added singles in the first.

In the second period, neither team could find the back of the net. Salmon Arm led 18-16 in shots after two period of play and would go back to the dressing room with a 3-nothing lead.

In the third period, the Silverbacks would quickly make it 4-0 on a goal by Justin Wilson (his first of the season) but a shut-out bid by Brandon Kegler would be snapped by Andrew Kemp just seconds later as Surrey would get on the scoreboard.  Surrey would add two more goals but it wouldn’t be enough for the comeback as both Akito Hirose and Mitchell would score in the third period…for Mitchell his second of the game would be an empty netter.

Silverbacks Head Coach Brandon West says the team played well despite missing a number of players due to injuries…

Former Silverbacks goalie Michael Botiz, who had a great game the night before in Vernon, only lasted the first 3 minutes of the game before he was pulled for Daniel Davidson who would make 18 saves on 21 shots. Silverback’s Kegler would get the win stopping 30 of 33 shots .

Salmon Arm improves to 4-and-6 on the season and will get ready to travel to Trail on Wednesday night to play the Smoke Eaters who sit a single point ahead of the Silverbacks.
