The Salmon Arm Silverbacks are hiring in the following positions:

Play-by-Play Broadcaster & Communications Coordinator

Description: The Salmon Arm Silverbacks are seeking one individual to fill the role of Play-by-Play Broadcaster & Communications Coordinator for the 2021-22 BCHL season. This individual is responsible for providing play-by-play of all Silverbacks games, generating content to be used across the Silverbacks digital platforms (trade announcements, game recaps, etc.), running team social media accounts and leading hockey specific communications for the club.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years hockey play-by-play experience (demo will be required)
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to utilize web CMS and social media platforms
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office & Excel
  • Ability to work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines
  • Excellent organizational & oral communication skills
  • Media relations experience considered an asset
  • Familiarity with video editing and graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) considered an asset
  • Knowledge of junior hockey and sport environment considered an asset
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends during the season, including extensive travel with the team

Job duties will include:

  • Serve as the play-by-play announcer for all home & away games
  • Generate digital content for sasilverbacks.com and Silverbacks social media platforms, including press releases, games recaps/previews, graphics and video
  • Work closely with hockey operations staff on announcements pertaining to trades, player commitments etc.
  • Fulfill media requests for Silverbacks players and coaches
  • Organize and manage team website, including placement of digital advertisements, placement of stories, menu items, graphics, etc.
  • Run all team social media accounts
  • Create and edit highlight packages
  • Ensure media booth is clean and organized and that Hockey TV set-up is working on game days
  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing Director to create and execute content and marketing plans

Trainer/Equipment Manager

Description: The Salmon Arm Silverbacks are seeking one individual to fill the role of Trainer/Equipment Manager for the 2021-22 BCHL season. This individual is responsible for tending to all player injuries and performing all equipment manager duties, including dressing room maintenance/preparation, equipment repair, skate sharpening, laundry and more.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Must be First Aid certified
  • Must have experience sharpening skates
  • Previous experience in junior hockey an asset
  • Concussion management certification & Taping/Strapping certification an asset
  • A valid passport is needed for cross-border travel, as well as a valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Preference will be given to candidates certified as Athletic Therapists
Job duties will include:
  • Injury response, rehabilitation & follow-up
  • Documentation of all injuries & communication to coaches/management
  • Working with team medical support & rehabilitation personnel
  • Leading team off-ice workouts
  • Equipment repair, inventory & maintenance
  • Dressing room setup for game days & practices
  • Packing and preparing for road trips
  • Skate sharpening
  • Laundry
  • Preparing for visiting team/trainer’s arrival and assisting them where necessary
  • Comply with all Hockey Canada, BCHL, and BC Hockey regulations

Store Manager

Description: The Salmon Arm Silverbacks are seeking one individual to fill the role of Store Manager for the Maximum Edge Hockey Shop. This individual is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations within the store, managing inventory and creating a schedule for store employees.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • 1-2 years customer service/retail experience
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills is vital
  • Working knowledge of the game of hockey preferred
  • Skate Sharpening experience considered an asset, but training is included with the position

Job duties will include:

  • Managing inventory and purchases
  • Providing daily cash reports
  • Assist with ordering all Silverbacks team gear and supplies
  • Organizing SAMHA team sizing days
  • Ordering all SAMHA team gear
  • Overseeing employee scheduling and store hours
  • Maintaining a clean and presentable store
  • Building business relationships with sales reps
  • Know all capabilities of the following systems: Igniter Ticketing System and Lightspeed POS System

Tri-caster Operator

Description: The Salmon Arm Silverbacks are seeking individuals to produce our multi-camera live hockey broadcast for our big screen and for those watching on Hockey TV.

This role entails directing camera operators, switching between cameras at the right time, cueing up replays and playing back pre-produced content such as our player intros and commercials on our big screen.

This is a paid position.
