Cowichan Steals 5-2 Win

SALMON ARM, B.C.  NOVEMBER 19, 2016

The Silverbacks (10-16-0-0) host the Wenatchee Wild (17-5-0-1) this afternoon (Sunday) at 3pm at the Shaw Centre. Fans are invited to skate with the team immediately following the game. The Wild are 4-3-0-0 in November, after winning their first four games the Wild have lost their past three as they wrap up four games in five days on the road. Wenatchee has a road record of 8-5-0-1, while Salmon Arm is 3-9-0-0 on home ice and 2-5-0-0 in the month of November.

The Silverbacks fell 5-2 at home to the Cowichan Valley Capitals (13-10-1-2) last night (Saturday) in Salmon Arm. The Wild lost 4-2 on Saturday at the West Kelowna Warriors (11-11-0-1). The Capitals opened the scoring in Salmon Arm, and the home team played catch up all night. Justin Wilson’s fourth of the season tied the game 1-1 at 8:50 of period one. The Capitals took the lead back and on the power-play at 11:53 with Jared Turcotte off for hooking. Carter Cochrane’s fourth of the season tied the game 2-2 at 13:27 of the first period. And, Cowichan Valley scored the final goal of the first frame and 4-on-4, 3-2 Capitals after 20 minutes. Salmon Arm lead 27-10 on the shot clock in the first.

The Capitals scored the only goal of the middle period, 4-2 and a power-player marker at 6:39 with Landon Fuller off for slashing. The Silverbacks outshot the Capitals 15-10 in the second period.

And Cowichan Valley’s fifth and final goal came with the man-advantage, 5-2 at 7:21 of period three. Fuller was penalized for roughing. The Silverbacks lead 15-13 on the shot clock in the third, and outshot the Capitals 57-33 overall. Trevin Kozlowski stopped 28 shots in the loss. Salmon Arm finished 0-for-5 on the power-play and 5-for-8 on the PK.

Julian Timba, Josh Latta, Brandon Kegler, Akito Hirose, Grayson Constable and Cameron Trott all sat out on Saturday.

The Silverbacks will visit the Capitals on February 10th, 2017.

The Silverbacks next action in Salmon Arm isn’t until Friday, December 3rd at home to the Trail Smoke Eaters (12-12-0-1) 7pm. The Silverbacks will be on the road next weekend, visiting the Merritt Centennials (9-11-1-5) on Friday and at the Prince George Spruce Kings (12-10-1-2) next Saturday night.
