‘Backs back-to-back road wins:

The Silverbacks earned back-to-back roads wins this weekend, following a 6-3 victory last night over the Smoke Eaters in Trail.

The ‘Backs opened the scoring for the second consecutive game, as Elijiah Barriga potted his third of the season just 97 seconds into the game. The visitors outshot the home team 11-10 in the first frame with Angus Redmond making his second consecutive start.

The Smoke Eaters Jake Kauppila tied the score 1-1, with his fourth of the season just 55 seconds into the second period.

Silverbacks 18-year-old defenceman Cameron Trott potted his first BCHL goal with 1:57 remaining, and the ‘Backs lead 2-1 into the final frame. The Silverbacks outshot the Smoke Eaters 12-10 in period two.

Kienan Scott’s sixth tied the game 2-2 at 8:19, a power-play goal with Phil Middleton off for interference and the first of six goals in the third.

Colton Thibault’s sixth put the Silverbacks back in front, 3-2 at 11:12. Kurt Black’s fourth tied the game just 47 seconds later, 3-3 at 11:59.

The Silverbacks then scored the final three goals of the game, 4-3 with Carson Bolduc’s sixth at 13:30, 5-3 after Josh Blanchard’s sixth at 17:24. And Josh Laframboise was credited with his third of the season with 41 seconds remaining. But as Laframboise moved in on the empty Trail net, his shot was knocked away by a Smoke Eaters stick sliding loose across the ice. The play was ruled a goal at 19:19.

The ‘Backs outshot the Smokies 14-13 in the third and 37-33 Silverbacks total. Angus Redmond stopped 30 of 33 shots for his second consecutive victory.

The Silverbacks power-play finished 0-for-4, while the penalty-kill was 4-for-5.

The ‘Backs and Smoke Eaters will meet again on Friday, December 18th at 7:30p.m. at the Cominco Arena in Trail in the final days before the holiday break.

The Silverbacks are now 8-3-2-0 with 18 points in 13 games and alone in second atop the Interior Division. The ‘Backs are one point ahead of the Vernon Vipers (8-6-0-1), and two up on the West Kelowna Warriors (7-4-0-2). The Penticton Vees (12-1) still lead with 24 points and 12 consecutive wins. The Smoke Eaters (4-9) with 8 points in 13 games are at the bottom of the division, four points back of the fifth place Merritt Centennials (6-9).

The Silverbacks next action is set for Friday, October 23rd when they will host the Victoria Grizzlies (2-8-0-2) at 7p.m. at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm. The Grizzlies are at the bottom of the Island Division with six points in 12 games. The Silverbacks will finish the two game weekend on Sunday, October 25th in Merritt at 2p.m.
