Backs Acquire Skilled Forward Morgan

Salmon Arm B.C. — The Salmon Arm Silverbacks are pleased to announce the acquisition of 18-year-old forward Nathan Morgan from the Cowichan Valley Capitals in exchange for forwards Sam Schofield and Ronan Walsh.

Morgan, from Calgary, Alta., was traded to the Capitals earlier this month from the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Grand Prairie Storm, and already has two years of Junior A experience under his belt. Last season, he recorded 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points in 54 games, which was third on the Storm in scoring. His 27 points ranked 15th in the entire AJHL last season amongst U-18 players.

“We’re excited to add Nathan to our lineup and believe he will be an offensive threat for us due to his strong shot and how well he thinks the game. He also has considerable junior experience for someone his age,” Silverbacks general manager Brooks Christensen said. “We’d like to thank Sam and Ronan for all their hard work. Sam was a spark plug for us last season and he also made his impact felt in the community. We appreciate everything he did during his time in Salmon Arm.”

Schofield, 18, scored three goals and added 11 assists last season for the Backs in 49 games. Walsh joined the Silverbacks this off-season and dressed in three Okanagan Cup games.

Before cracking the Storm roster as a 16-year-old in the 2018-19 season, Morgan suited up for the Northern Alberta X-Treme U-16 Prep team in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League, where he scored 29 goals and added 26 assists for 55 points in 33 games.

The Silverbacks would like to welcome Nathan to Salmon Arm and thank Sam and Ronan for all their hard work and dedication to the organization.
