SBacks Home & Home vs Penticton

SALMON ARM, B.C.  DECEMBER 16th, 2016

The Silverbacks (14-18-1-1) will visit the Penticton Vees (27-5-0-1) tonight (Friday) at 7pm, in the first of a home-and-home set which will conclude tomorrow (Saturday) at 7pm at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm.

The season series with Salmon Arm and Penticton is even at one game each. The Silverbacks won 4-3 in double overtime in Penticton on December 2nd. The Vees opened the season series with a 4-1 victory in Salmon Arm on November 4th. Salmon Arm has three wins, one loss and a tie in the first five games of December. The Vees have won four straight and four of their first five games in this final month of 2016. Salmon Arm has been outscored 146-110, with the second highest total of goals-against. Penticton has scored 117 goals and has allowed just 69 in 33 regular season games, the least among the 17 teams.

The Silverbacks power-play is operating at 22-percent, 10th in the league with 37 power-play goals and 10 short-handed goals-against. The Vees are at 17-percent with the man-advantage, with 21 power-play markers and just two short-handed goals-against. Salmon Arm’s penalty-kill is at the bottom of the BCHL at 70-percent, with three short-handed goals and the highest number of power-play goals-against at 47.

Tonight (Friday), will be Penticton’s sixth consecutive home game. The Silverbacks will play five road games and four at home in December, with all nine games versus the Interior Division. Salmon Arm is 10-9-0-0 on the road, while the Vees have a home ice record of 12-2-0-1. The Silverbacks have a record of 9-11-1-0 in the Interior, and Penticton is 13-2-0-1 within the division. The Silverbacks will move into their Christmas break following tomorrow (Saturday) night’s action in Salmon Arm. And the Silverbacks will resume game action on Thursday, December 29th in Vernon at 7pm before hosting the Vipers on Friday, December 30th at the Shaw Centre at 7pm.

Penticton won 4-3 in overtime at home over the Trail Smoke Eaters (16-16-0-3) on Wednesday.
