Bounced In Extra Minutes

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks had a chance to tie the Penticton Vees for 1st place in the Interior Division with two points on Saturday, but it was the Trail Smoke Eaters who took a 3-2 win in 2OT.

In the opening period from Trail, the Smoke Eaters clicked on the power-play, at 4:53 when a Braedon Pears wrist-shot beat Angus Redmond top-shelf. The Silverbacks top line rebounded quickly a few minutes later, when Landon Smith got his 19th of the year from Anderson and Gillies.

The Smoke Eaters; who out-shot Salmon Arm 19-9 in the 1st Period, got another goal on the re-bound at 16:27 when Scott Davidson got a gift from Joel Webb and Jake Lucchini. Landon Smith then connected for his 20th goal, and 40th point of the year from Gillies and Anderson once again. Silverbacks out-shot Trail 10-8 in the 2nd period of play.

The 'Backs and Smoke Eaters resumed play in the 3rd, but couldn't find a solution for the 2-2 score, ending regulation with the shots 39-34 in favour of Trail.

Going into overtime, the Silverbacks had the man advantage, but couldn't convert, sending the contest to double overtime; where the Smoke Eaters also found themselves on the power-play, winning the game when Defensemen Cody Bardock's goal beat Redmond high side.

The Silverbacks fall to 13-8-1-2 after the double-overtime loss in Trail.
