Top Line Continues Stellar Play

The top line in the BCHL, consisting of Gillies-Anderson-Smith was at it early, and often Friday night at the Shaw Center, as the home town crowd saw the Silverbacks defeat the Cowichan Valley Capitals 5-3.
The 1st Period saw the Capitals came out strong on the road, and taking a 2-0 lead before the middle of the frame. Adam Moody tipped in a point-shot before the Caps scored minutes later on the power-play when Caps D Man Taki Pantziris scored his 7th of the year. The Silverbacks were being out-shot 7-2, before coming to life after their mid-period time-out allowing Evan Anderson to get the boys on the board. Two minutes later, fellow native of Colorado Landon Smith buried his 17th of the season to tie the game at 2-2.

Taylor Maruya's 4th of the year was the lone goal of the 2nd period, where the Caps out-shot the Backs 15-8 and goaltender Adam Clark had to be solid.

In the 3rd Period, the top line wasn't done, as Smith got his 2nd of the game, his 18th of the year, which was also his league leading 38th point; that made the game 4-2. Alex Jewell; the game's 3rd star, got a short-handed empty net goal finishing the game with a goal and a helper to make it 5-2.

That's all the insurrance the Backs would need, as they held onto their lead for an eventual 5-3 victory.

Evan Anderson finished the night with 4 points, and finished as the games 1st star. He now has 7 pts in his last 2 games.
