Three Silverbacks heading to the BCHL All-Star Game

Salmon Arm, BC – The fan vote ahead of the 2022/23 BCHL All-Star game concluded on Friday afternoon as two Silverbacks were eligible in the voting process. Matthew Tovell, and Nathan Mackie will be joining their teammate, Owen Beckner after they made it through the voting window. The Silverbacks will be the lone team in the BCHL to have three players participating.

Matthew Tovell has been one of the leagues best goaltenders this season as he is a league leader in many of the major categories. His .922 Save Percentage (5th), 2.76 GAA (7th), 9 Wins (6th), 2 Shutouts (3rd), and 979 Minutes played (4th) have him in the top half of every single goaltender category. He is coming off a 37 save shutout in his most recent game against Cranbrook on Saturday.

‘Backs captain, Nathan Mackie, has been an offensive weapon for the team this year. His 11 goals leads the team in that category through 22 games this season. The Michigan State University commit has been a threat on both ends of the ice for the team this year as he has showed his poise on the defensive side as well. While he is a staple on the man advantage, he is also tied for the league lead in short-handed goals with two.

The two will join their teammate, Owen Beckner, at the outdoor All-Star game in Penticton on January 21st. Beckner was the Silverbacks initial player announced to the game back on November 17th. The 17-year-old year old centre currently leads the team in points (20), and assists (12). Beckner was named the Silverbacks player of the month for October, and also committed to Colorado College earlier in the year.

Join us in congratulating these three Silverbacks on their recent announcement to the BCHL All-Star Game.
