The Silverbacks (15-5-2-1) put together back-to-back victories this past weekend at the Shaw Centre, during parents weekend in Salmon Arm. The ‘Backs came from behind for the second consecutive night, and won 5-3 at home over the West Kelowna Warriors (12-8-0-2).
The visitors opened the scoring just 15 seconds into the opening period and lead 1-0 after 20 minutes. The Warriors outshot the Silverbacks 21-13.
Colton Thibault’s 14th of the season tied the game 1-1 and on the power-play at 5:23 of period two. The Warriors took the lead back in just 59 seconds, 2-1 at 6:20. West Kelowna went ahead 3-1 at 16:43 of the second period.
Ross Heidt’s 16th got the ‘Backs back within one with 40 seconds remaining in the middle frame, 3-2 at 19:40. The Warriors took the 3-2 lead into the third, the Silverbacks outshot West Kelowna 18-10.
Chase Zieky potted his 11th and with the man-advantage 48 seconds into the third, tying the game 3-3. Josh Laframboise’s fifth gave the Silverbacks their first lead of the game, 4-3 at 11:52. And Thibault finished the scoring with his second of the game and 15th, 5-3 into an empty net at 19:49.
The ‘Backs outshot the Warriors 13-12 in the final frame, and 44-43 Silverbacks overall. Brandon Kegler started in goal and stopped 40 of 43 shots for his third win in six games with Salmon Arm.
The ‘Backs finished two-for-seven with the man-advantage and five-for-five on the penalty-kill.
The Silverbacks next action will be on Friday, November 20th when they host the Alberni Valley Bulldogs (9-10-1-1) at 7p.m. The ‘Backs will be on the road to take on the Prince George Spruce Kings (5-16-0-2) on Saturday, November 21st at 7p.m.
The Silverbacks are now 7-2-2-1 at the Shaw Centre and 9-1-0-1 versus the Interior Division.
The Penticton Vees (22-1) remain atop the Interior Division and BCHL. The Silverbacks sit in second and 11 points back of the Vees, and seven points in front of the Warriors who have one game in hand. The Vernon Vipers (11-12-0-1) are fourth, three behind West Kelowna. The Merritt Centennials (8-16-0-1) sit fifth and six behind the Vipers, just one up on the Trail Smoke Eaters (8-13-0-0).
