CHILLIWACK, SEPTEMBER25th 2016 – The Silverbacks (1-4) scored a pair of power-play goals on Saturday in a 4-2 victory over the Nanaimo Clippers (3-3) at the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack. The ‘Backs face-off with the Surrey Eagles (0-5) on Sunday afternoon at 1pm at Prospera Centre in Chilliwack.
Jared Turcotte scored the first goal on Saturday, his first of the season and on the power-play which gave the Silverbacks a 1-0 lead in the first period.
The ‘Backs outshot the Clippers 11-5 in the opening 20 minutes.
The Silverbacks out-scored Nanaimo 2-1 in the middle frame. The Clippers tied the score 1-1 at 11:11, before Mitch Skapski potted his second of the season and gave the Silverbacks a 2-1 lead at 13:16. Carson Bolduc depostited his second of the season at 16:38 of the second and the ‘Backs took a 3-1 lead into the third.
The Silverbacks lead 8-5 on the shot clock in the middle frame.
And the two teams traded goals in the final period. The Clippers got within one, 3-2 with a power-play goal at 16:18 as Nathan Iannone was off for cross-checking. Josh Latta gave the Silverbacks their second two-goal lead of the game with his second off the season at 17:08.
The Clippers outshot the Silverbacks 13-8 in the third, and 27-23 total.
The Silverbacks power-play finished two-for-ten on Saturday, and the penalty-kill was four-five.
The Eagles are 0-and-5 and began the Showcase with a 3-2 loss to the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Thursday. Surrey has been outscored 20-15.
The Silverbacks Josh Blanchard has watched the past three games after suffering an injury in practise two weeks ago. Carter Cochrane will be out from four to eight weeks, after the 20-year-old defensemen left late in last Saturday’s game. As well, Ben Evanish sat out on Saturday at the Showcase.
The Silverbacks next home game in Salmon Arm is set for Friday, September 30th versus the Merritt Centennials at 7pm the Shaw Centre. The ‘Backs will visit the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday, November 1st at 7pm in Washington state.
