Silverbacks land commitment from defenceman Chris Kobelka

SALMON ARM, BC- The Salmon Arm Silverbacks are thrilled to announce the commitment of defenceman, Chris Kobelka (’03) for the 2023-24 season.

“Chris brings another veteran presence on the back end with his vision and skating ability,” said Silverbacks GM Brooks Christensen. “His maturity in his game and willingness to play difficult against opposing teams we feel was needed on our defence core.”

Kobelka played in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons this past season. The 20-year-old, Calgary, Alberta, player was second in total points (42 TP) and first in team assists with 32 assists throughout the regular season after playing 57 games. Kobelka put up some great numbers as a play-maker this past season but proved he could score goals finishing the regular season with 10 goals as a defenceman. The Silverbacks and Kobelka are very excited for the 2023-24 season to begin.

“I am excited to be joining the Silverbacks and the community of Salmon Arm,” said Kobelka. “I have spent every summer since I was born on Shuswap Lake and in the surrounding area of Salmon Arm. Salmon Arm has always been a place of high interest for me.  After having discussions with GM Brooks Christensen and HC Tyler Shattock it was a very easy decision for me to make. I look forward to playing in front of some of the best fans in the league and working towards helping bring Salmon Arm a much overdue Championship. Go Silverbacks!”

Kobelka is committed to NCAA’s University of Alaska Fairbanks and the Silverbacks can not wait to see him suit up next season.

Please join us in welcoming Chris and his family to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks organization.
