Silverbacks add European defenseman

Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks have signed D Winston Frimmel (’04).

Frimmel is from Klagenfurt, Austria, and has spent the last two seasons playing in the J20 Nationell league in Sweden. In 65 games, the defenseman has 2 goals and 8 assists for 10 points. Before that, he spent one season playing in Austria, in the ICEJL, putting up 15 points in 32 games.

“Winston is big, mobile, and a tough-to-play-against defenseman that we feel we needed with Wolfenberg being out for the regular season,” said Silverbacks GM, Brooks Christensen. “His recent experience at the World Juniors will help our defense core and we are excited to have him in the lineup this weekend.”

The 6’6” defenseman recently suited up for his country at the U20 World Championship, Division 1, Group A tournament, playing all five games and grabbing one assist.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity and am excited to be here,” said Frimmel. “I’m ready to get started and help the Silverbacks organization.”

The Silverbacks would like to welcome Winston and his family to the organization and to Salmon Arm!
