Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks wrapped up their BCHL Showcase with a night game against the Powell River Kings.

Each team finds twine in a back-and-forth first period. Powell River strikes first with Sam Esposito finding the back of the net just after the media timeout, 1-0. Answering back later in the frame, on a powerplay, Scott Miner sends a perfectly placed laser from the blue line to score his first of the season, tying it up 1-1. Each team took a couple of penalties in the first with the Silverbacks getting the lone powerplay goal.

The game remains tied after the second period with both teams scoring again. Grabbing their first lead of the game, Liam Bursaw scores his 2nd of the season tapping in a backdoor pass to a wide open net, 2-1. In the final 2 minutes, Koen Senft gets sent to the penalty box for holding. On the powerplay, with 7 seconds left, Marek Beaudoin hammers home the loose puck in the crease to tie up the game 2-2. It was Powell Rivers first powerplay goal of the season.

Getting back-to-back goals, the Silverbacks take advantage in the third period. Just under four minutes in, the Silverbacks lead an odd man rush into the offensive zone where Luke Lepper finishes off a tick-tack-toe into the open net for his 2nd of the year. Three minutes later, Luke Sinclair gets his 2nd of the campaign when he gently slides the puck past the sliding pad to make it 4-2. Pushing for a comeback, the Kings pull their goalie and are able to get a tally, Eliot Compton cuts into the lead 4-3. That’s as far as the comeback effort goes as the Silverbacks get the win.

Maverick Avent gets his first career BCHL win, stopping 27/30.
