Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks have signed defenseman Sawyer Prokopetz (’04) for the 2024/25 season.
Coming in with BCHL experience, Prokopetz spent a season with the Merritt Centennials, scoring two goals and eight assists for ten points in 42 games. The 19-year-old has also spent time playing Junior hockey in the USHL and in the OJHL, where he was teammates with current Silverback Cole Cooksey.
“Sawyer is a great addition to our club. He’s a defenseman who takes up a lot of ice, defends hard, and has good skating ability,” said Silverbacks GM, Brooks Christensen. “We believe he’s a leader on and off the ice. Bringing his junior experience will be a great addition to our defence core. We were extremely impressed with how he played against us in our first round playoff matchup against Merritt this year and we look for him to come in and do the same for us next season.”
The 6’5 defenseman suited up for Team Canada East in the 2022/23 World Junior A Challenge where he put up a goal and an assist in six games played. The Wainfleet, Ontario product is committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
“I am honoured and grateful to be a part of such an exceptional organization and winning culture,” said Prokopetz. “I’m very excited to represent the community of Salmon Arm and can’t wait to wear the purple and white!”
The Silverbacks would like to welcome Sawyer and his family to the organization and to Salmon Arm!
