Silverbacks add a forward and a goalie for the 2025/26 season

Salmon Arm, B.C. –  The Salmon Arm Silverbacks have signed Forward Porter Byrd-Leitner (’06) and Goalie Jake Shingles (’07) for the 2025/26 season.

Byrd-Leitner played this year in the AJHL with the Bonnyville Pontiacs where the 19-year-old has 19 goals and 34 assists for 53 points in 50 games. Before that, the Moorestown, New Jersey product played with the New Jersey Rockets 18u AAA team where he had 13 goals and 31 assists for 44 points in 48 games. The 6’0″ forward is committed to Colgate University.

“I am very excited to join the Silverbacks because of the consistency they’ve been performing with for the last few years,” said Byrd-Leitner. “I’ve heard great things about their coaching, team, and facilities so I can’t wait to get started.”

Shingles has played in 40 games this season with Northwood School in the USHS-Prep league, putting up a 29-10-1 record with a 1.90 GAA and 0.930 SV%.

“I’m beyond excited to start my career with the Silverbacks,” said Shingles. “Their track record for developing goaltenders and preparing them for the next level has been outstanding. After talking with coach I believe this is the perfect place for me and I cannot wait to get started. I would like to thank Coach Mallaro and Northwood School along with Bryan Macdonald and Neville Rautert for helping me reach this goal.”
