SALMON ARM, BC- The Salmon Arm Silverbacks organization is pleased to announce that Blake Friars has been hired onto the staff for the upcoming 2021-22 campaign. Friars will serve as the new voice for all Silverbacks games this season on HockeyTV. He will also take over the role of the Communication Coordinator, which includes managing the website and all social media accounts. Blake hails from Bienfait, Saskatchewan, and most recently worked in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League with the Virden Oil Capitals. He graduated with a BA in Communication Arts from Minot State, North Dakota, and served as the Play by Play for the Men’s and Woman’s hockey teams.
“I am honoured to be a part of such a great organization like the Silverbacks. Brooks and his staff have been very welcoming from the day that I arrived in Salmon Arm,” said Friars. “Broadcasting is my passion, and not being able to do that the last couple years due to the pandemic was tough, but I am extremely grateful to get the opportunity to call hockey games in one of the best Junior A Leagues in the country,” added Friars.
General Manager Brooks Christensen had this to say about adding Friars to the staff for the upcoming season.
“I’d like to welcome Blake to the Salmon Arm Community,” said Christensen. “We are excited to have Blake working with our program, fans and all our corporate partners,” added Christensen.
The Silverback’s first pre-season game is on the road in Vernon against the Vipers on September 21st.
