Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks are pleased to announce the signing of defenseman Nicholas Wolfenberg (04′) and forward Ty Mason (’05) for the 2023-24 season.

Wolfenberg comes with Junior experience, playing last season with the Okotoks Oilers in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). The Calgary, AB product has scored 9 goals while adding 28 assists for 37 points in 74 games across two seasons with the Oilers.

“Nick checks several boxes for us when evaluating our roster needs,” said Silverbacks GM, Brooks Christensen. “He’s big, skates well, and defends hard making it difficult to play against. His Jr experience on the back end will help our depth and look for him to take a significant role with our d-core.”

The defenseman also suited up for Canada West at the U19 World Junior A Challenge, playing in all six games.

The 19-year-old is committed to play for Cornell University.

Mason played last season with the Weyburn Red Wings in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) where he scored 25 goals and added 32 assists for 57 points in 56 games. In total, the 18-year-old put up 75 points in 102 games played in the SJHL.

“We have followed Ty’s path for a while and when the opportunity came to recruit him we felt it was a great fit,”. said Silverbacks GM, Brooks Christensen. “As a team, we weren’t happy with our offensive production through preseason and feel Ty’s the type of player to come in and help product offence.”

The Weyburn, SK product is committed to Western Michigan University.

The Silverbacks would like to welcome Nicholas, Ty, and their families to the Silverbacks organization and to Salmon Arm.
