Weekend Sweep in Sight

Last night was the biggest goal margin for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. The four goal difference in the 6-2 win over Surrey say five players goal with Nick Unruh collecting a pair.

In a game that saw 15 penalties handed out, it was tough to generate a flow to the game  but Salmon Arm saw their special teams come up big. Hudson Schandor scored shorthanded while John Little and Aiden Jenner each had goals on the power play. While ahead 4-2 in the third frame, the team had to kill off a five minute power play the Eagles received. Salmon Arm did just that, and scored less than a minute after going back to even strength.

Tonight the Silverbacks face a tough task against an opponent that is on the hunt for revenge. Penticton lost to the Backs 3-1 on home ice Friday night, and had yesterday to rest up for the afternoon game today. Salmon Arm meanwhile had to take on a scrappy team in Surrey who battled right to the final whistle.

Friday night, Wyatt Marlow scored his first goal in the BCHL, Hudson Schandor provided the winner on a slap pass from Nick Unruh, and taking a pass from Jonathan Krahn, Trevor Adams sent the puck into the empty net. The penalty kill was key that game going eight for eight and denying a pair of five-on-threes for the Vees.

2019 has been off to a good start for Salmon Arm. They are 2-0, and with West Kelowna losing last night, Salmon Arm is now within three points of fourth place, and have three games in hand over the Warriors. A win this afternoon against the Vees would be a huge confidence booster for Salmon Arm. In the Shaw Centre they are 1-0 against Penticton this season winning in a shootout back in October.

Players to Watch:

Silverbacks: He was a player to watch Friday against the Vees, and since he had his third point in as many games against them, we’ll throw Aiden Jenner‘s name into the equation again. The power forward was strong on the forecheck last night, and was rewarded with a late power play goal. Against Penticton this season he has one goal and two assists in three games. A strong game last night continued a strong season for Sol Seibel. He started the season off with some penatly trouble, but since coming back has been much more disciplined while still playing with an edge.

Vees: Kept off the scoresheet in the first two meetings with Salmon Arm, Andre Ghantous scored in the last game for the lone Vees goal. He is on a two game goal scoring streak and has points in three straight games. A point per game player this season against the Backs, Jack Lagerstrom has three points in the three games season series so far this year. The Cornell commit is picking it up offensively as of late, on a five game point streak where he has six points. He has 12 points in the 33 games prior.
