Silverbacks win shootout 2-1 over the Vees

Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks hit the road for the final time of the 2023/24 BCHL regular season for a matchup against the Penticton Vees.

The first period saw no scoring as both teams had a couple of golden opportunities. Each team had their chances on the powerplay with neither able to take advantage. The Silverbacks trailed in the shot total 10-7 after the opening frame.

The score clock was able to get some activity in the second period. Seven minutes in, Isaac Lambert tips in a point shot from Ryan Gillespie to give the Silverbacks the 1-0 lead. A four-on-four chance saw neither team take advantage of the open ice. With six minutes left, Max Heise found himself alone on the side of the net and pushed a puck five-hole to tie up the game, 1-1.

Just like the first period, the third saw no one find the back of the net. With two separate four-on-four opportunities and a Silverbacks powerplay, no team could score and this game needed overtime.

In overtime, the Silverbacks bent but didn’t break, weathering the Vees offensive storm. JJ Monteiro was called for a hooking penalty in the extra frame but just like the previous three disadvantages, the Silverbacks were able to kill it off and send this game to shootout.

Looking for the first shootout win of the season, the Silverbacks relied on two shootout heroes. Cole Cooksey got the lone goal, while Eli Pulver rejected all three Vees shooters for the Silverbacks 2-1 win.

Pulver made 42/43 saves in the win.
