Silverbacks Win 1st Game Of Home & Home Series

SALMON ARM, B.C. OCTOBER 14th, 2016 – The Silverbacks (5-7-0-0) visit the West Kelowna Warriors (5-5-0-1) tonight at 7pm, in game two of the weekend home-and-home set and game three of the season series.

Salmon Arm came back back from a 4-0 deficit last night (Friday) at home, and won 5-4 in overtime over the Warriors.

West Kelowna got out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on Friday, and outshot the Silverbacks 17-11.

The home team trailed 4-0 early into the second. Trevin Kozlowski relieved Brandon Kegler at 2:35, after Kegler allowed four goals on 20 shots.

Justin Wilson’s second of the season at 4:11 and Marcus Mitchell’s fifth at 13:47 got the Silverbacks within two after 40 minutes. The Warriors lead 4-2 and 15-14 on the shot clock in the middle frame.

Connor Sundquist’s sixth brought the home team within one at 8:46 of the third. And Jared Turcotte’s fourth of the season tied the game 4-4 at 11:32 of the third.

The Silverbacks killed off back-to-back penalties in the final eight minutes of the third, as Nathan Iannone was called for slashing and Mitch Skapski for high-sticking.

The Warriors outshot the ‘Backs 13-9 in the third but, the Silverbacks outshot West Kelowna 13-1 in OT. The Warriors finished ahead 46-38 total. Kozlowski stopped all 26 shots that he faced after relieving Kegler early in the second period.

The ‘Backs power-play was 1-for-5, and the penalty-kill finished 2-for-3.

The Silverbacks opened the season series with a 5-3 victory in West Kelowna last Friday, October 7th.

The Silverbacks are 3-and-3 away from the Shaw Centre, and the Warriors have three wins along with four losses in West Kelowna.
