Silverbacks sweep home weekend, 3-1

Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks finished off their home weekend with a battle against the Cranbrook Bucks.

The Silverbacks were able to jump on the board first in this game. Just over eight minutes in, Jacob Bonkowski picks up the loose puck in the slot during a scramble in front and sends it by the pad of the goalie for his sixth goal of the year. Nathaniel Davis would take a tripping penalty later in the frame, which was killed off.

The second period almost went by the way-side with no action until the final couple of minutes. Tristan Allen would take a roughing penalty with less than two minutes left in the period, sending the Bucks on the powerplay. With only six seconds left on the man advantage, Luke Pfoh would find the top corner from the high slot to tie up this game.

Just when this game looked like it was going to need extra time, the Silverbacks offense exploded. With four minutes left to play, Jonah Aergerter would win the faceoff back cleanly to Marcus Broberg who launched one into the twine for his second goal of the season, grabbing the lead in the process 2-1. About two minutes later, JJ Monteiro collected the loose puck cutting across the offensive zone and caught the goalie off guard with a laser into the net.

Ryan Grout stood on his head, making 32/33 saves in the win, while grabbing the first star of the game.
