Silverbacks Split Weekend Action

The Silverbacks (11-17-0-1) split their weekend on the road, falling 6-3 to the Prince George Spruce Kings (14-10-2-1) on Saturday night. Salmon Arm began the weekend with a 4-3 victory over the Merritt Centennials (11-12-1-5) on Friday night in the Nicola Valley.

Prince George opened the scoring just 1:25 into Saturday’s game. The Spruce Kings took a 2-0 lead with a power-play goal at 15:52, as Landon Fuller was penalized for roughing.

The Spruce Kings outshot the visitors 17-11 in the first frame. Prince George took a 3-0 lead just 38 seconds into the middle period, 4-on-4. And Carson Bolduc got the Silverbacks on the board with his 11th, just six seconds later.

Josh Latta put Salmon Arm within one in the second period 3-2 at 3:36, Latta’s third of the season in just his second game back after injury. The Spruce Kings went ahead 4-2 at 16:10. Salmon Arm lead 16-9 on the shot clock in the middle period and 27-26 Silverbacks overall.

Elijiah Barriga’s 13th cut the deficit to 4-3 at 5:04 of the third.

Prince George finished the scoring with back-to-back empty net goals, at 19:06 and 19:32.

The home team outshot the visitors 12-11 in the final frame, and 38-38 total on the shot clock. Trevin Kozlowski stopped 32 of 36 as the first season Silverback started back-to-back games this weekend. The penalty-kill finished 5-for-6 on Saturday.

The Spruce Kings will visit Salmon Arm on Saturday, January 28th, 2017 at 7pm.

Hayden Hopkins sat out this weekend, serving games two and three of his four game suspension after receiving a major penalty for a blow to the head last Saturday at home to Cowichan Valley.  Grayson Constsble, Akito Hirose, Brandon Kegler and Julian Timba all sat out as well with various injuries. Timba has returned home for the season, recovering from a concussion.

Affiliate forward Colton Thomas and goaltender Tanner Marshall each made the trip to Merritt and Prince George.

The Silverbacks are now 8-8-0-0 on the road, and 3-6-0-1 in November.
Salmon Arm will practice this week ahead of back-to-back games next weekend. The Silverbacks will visit the Penticton Vees (23-4-0-0) on Friday, December 2nd at 7pm.

Salmon Arm’s next home action will be Saturday, December 3rd at home to the Trail Smoke Eaters (14-13-0-1) at 7pm.
