Silverbacks Host Merrit Friday Night

The Silverbacks (3-5-0-0) will begin the month of October with back-to-back games coming up this weekend. Salmon Arm will host the Merritt Centennials (3-6-0-0) on Friday, and the Silverbacks will visit the West Kelowna Warriors (5-3-0-0) on Saturday. Each game will start at 7pm.

Salmon Arm wrapped up September’s action this past Saturday night, losing 6-4 at home to the Trail Smoke Eaters (6-1-0-1). The Smokies lead from start to finish, opening the scoring at 3:57 of the first. And Trail went ahead 2-0 at 5:31 as Rhett Kingston was penalized for hooking. Salmon Arm’s Logan Mostat cut the lead in half on the power-play, Mostat’s third of the season. And Hudson Schandor potted his first BCHL goal at 18:53, also with the man-advantage. The Silverbacks trailed 3-2 after 20 minutes, but lead 10-5 on the shot clock.

Trevor Adams tied the game 3-3 at 3:35 of the second, the second goal of the season for the first season Silverback. The Smoke Eaters took the lead back, 4-3 at 12:41. Trail outshot Salmon Arm 13-10 in the second period, but 20-18 Silverbacks overall.

Rhett Kingston opened the scoring just 42 seconds into the final frame and the tied the score at 4-4. Kingston’s fifth of the season, as the first season Silverback has scored in each of his first five games. But just 11 seconds later the Smoke Eaters took a 5-4 lead just 53 seconds into the third. And Trail finished the scoring, 6-4 at the 10 minute mark of the third.

Salmon Arm outshot the Smokies 12-7 in the third period, and 32-25 Silverbacks total. Bo Didur took the loss in goal for the home team. Trail now leads the season series 2-0 after opening with a 4-3 victory at the Shaw Centre on Saturday, September 16th.

Akito Hirose, Trey Thomas and Josh Latta each sat out on Saturday. The Silverbacks will play 11 games in the second month of the regular season, after 3 wins and 5 losses in September.
