Silverbacks handle the Vipers, 3-1

Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks hosted the Vernon Vipers.

The Silverbacks strike first in the opening period. Salmon Arm kills off a Cole Longacre holding penalty to start the game. Shortly after Cole Bieksa is called for tripping, giving the Silverbacks their first powerplay of the night. With the man-advantage, Mateu Späth snipes home his 8th of the season for the 1-0 lead. More penalties back-and-forth to end the frame as neither team can capitalize.

Putting the game away in the second period, the Silverbacks score a couple more. In the first 4 minutes, Oliver Czaja scores his first BCHL goal to tie up the game 1-1. Halfway through, Davids Livsics gets slashed on a breakaway and is awarded a penalty shot but Mikkel Christensen slams the door, keeping this guy tied. Back on the powerplay to end the period, Anthony Cardilli finishes a rebound in front for his 7th of the year, regaining the lead, 2-1. 16 seconds later, Jack Toogood forces the turnover and crashes the net, scoring his 5th of the season, a quick 3-1 lead.

The Silverbacks hold onto the win in an even third period. There was no scoring or penalties in the final frame in a period that was in a deadlock. Shots on goal in the third period was 8-8.

Mikkel Christensen stops 28/29 shots in the win.
