Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks took on the Cranbrook Bucks for the third time this year, looking for the first win.
The Silverbacks grab the lead in the first period. Starting off with a powerplay in the first 5 minutes as Jacob Fletcher gets sent to the box for a holding call, but an unsuccessful powerplay to start off the game. Another chance with the man advantage late in the opening frame as Rasmus Svartström gets called for an illegal check to the head minor with two and a half minutes to play. On the powerplay, Cole Cooksey scores his 10th of the season, making it 1-0.
Adding onto the lead in the second period, the Silverbacks find the back of the net again. The game was starting to get a bit physical as Dakota MacIntosh and Leyton Stewart were both sent to the box for roughing in the first minute of the period. The Silverbacks were able to kill off three penalty in the middle frame to keep the Bucks off the board. Just before the BCHL media timeout, Roenick Jodoin adds onto the score with his 15th of the season, making it 2-0.
The Bucks get a goal in the third period but the Silverbacks hold on for the win. Another four-on-four to halfway through the period with Aidan Willis and Leyton Stewart again getting roughing penalties. Shortly after, the Silverbacks can’t add onto their lead on another powerplay opportunity with Samuel Lyne in the box with a trip. In the final minute, the Bucks pull their goalie and it works out as Rasmus Svartström gets Cranbrook on the scoreboard, cutting into the lead, 2-1. That’s all that will be scored but the physicality doesn’t stop as after the final buzzer and scrum breaks out with 5 total guys getting roughing calls after the game.
