Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks went to Penticton for the second time this season to do battle against the Vees.
The Vees struck first and early in the first period. Within the first minutes, Louie Wehmann takes advantage of a defensive zone turnover by ripping it top corner for the quick 1-0 Vees lead. Some penalty troubles for Penticton in the rest of the period but the Silverbacks unable to capitalize, going 0/2 on the powerplay in the opening frame.
Silverbacks break through on the powerplay to tie up the game in the second period. An early powerplay opportunity again as Michael Fisher gets a high-sticking penalty. With the man advantage, Maddux Martin plants himself in the high slot and tips in a point shot, his 13th of the season to tie the game 1-1.
The third period saw back-and-forth action but this game needed overtime. On the scoresheet Ryan Philbrick took the lone penalty in the frame, a holding penalty which the Silverbacks are able to kill off successfully.
Both teams have chances in overtime but the Vees grab the winner. With three minutes to go in overtime, Simon Meier finishes off a three-on-two rush in the offensive zone for the game winner.
Andrew Ballantyne makes 29/31 saves in the overtime loss.
