Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks wrapped up the home weekend against the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
Sherwood Park finds the back of the net twice in the first period to get out to a hot start. Right away the Silverbacks are tasked with a penalty kill in the first minute when Jack Toogood was sent to the box for high sticking. On the powerplay, Brant Romaniuk finds the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. In the final 30 seconds of the frame, Jude Bray taps in a two-on-one break to extend the lead, 2-0.
Both teams score in the second as the Silverbacks still trail. In the first two minutes, Ryan White unleashes a shot from the blue line that finds the top corner to make it a 3-0 game. Then the Silverbacks get another look on the powerplay and make no mistake when Landon Mackie hammers home a rebound for his first as a Silverback, 11th overall, making it a 3-1 game. The game starts to get rough with penalties called on each side to end the period, including the Silverbacks heading into the third period on a 5-on-3 advantage.
The Crusaders offense takes over in the third period. A sign of hope for a comeback in the opening minute when Keifer Miller finishes off a beautiful passing play to cut the lead to 3-2 with his 8th of the season. It would then go downhill for the Silverbacks as Kent Moors picks the corner to regain the two-goal lead, 4-2 lead. Then it’s a fight between Tanner Walos and Gabriel O’Brien as the Silverbacks captain tries to bring some momentum to the team. Another powerplay goal has Erik Kald wire a one-timer to make it 5-2. The scoring wasn’t over as Jude Bray gets his second of the game by forcing a turnover and finishing strong with a move, 6-2. Adding some insult to injury, Joseph Sinclair scored the Crusaders third powerplay goal of the night in the final minute to make it 7-2.
