Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks took on the Penticton Vees at Rogers Rink.
The Silverbacks attack for quick goals in the first period. To start the period, the Silverbacks kill off a Keifer Miller hooking penalty. Just over halfway through, Cole Cooksey drives the net and tucks it under the pad to get the Silverbacks the 1-0 lead. 13 seconds later, off the ensuing faceoff, Maddux Martin applies pressure on net which results in him tapping home a loose puck to extend the lead, 2-0. Another quick goal, 38 seconds later, has Roenick Jodoin use his speed and pop the puck top corner to make it 3-0, with the Silverbacks scoring three goals in 51 seconds. Shortly after, Riley Ashe gets hit from behind which causes Cole Cooksey to step up and drop the gloves with Brock Reinhart. Cole Cooksey gets an extra game misconduct for instigating the fight.
No scoring in the second period, despite chances for the Silverbacks. In the middle frame, the Silverbacks had two powerplay opportunities that they could not take advantage of. On the first powerplay only 40 seconds in when Michael Fisher was called for interference, the Silverbacks were able to find the back of the net, but after review the goal was waved off for goalie interference.
Penticton storms back in the third period to tie it up. Patrick Raftery gets called for a tripping penalty, giving the Vees a powerplay to start the period. Late in the man advantage, Caton Ryan rips home a one-timer to get the Vees on the board, 3-1. Four minutes later, the Vees are back on the attack with Louie Wehmann gathering a loose puck and sending it into the net to make it a one goal game, 3-2. In the final couple of minutes the Vees would pull the goalie pushing for a tie. Caton Ryan would get his second of the game with a shot through traffic to tie the game up, 3-3 with a minute to play. In the last 12 seconds, Maddux Martin gets called for a hooking penalty, forcing the Silverbacks to start overtime on the penalty kill.
Penticton gets the overtime game winning goal. After successfully killing off the penalty to start the extra frame, the action was back-and-forth with both teams having opportunities. The Silverbacks had a couple of breakaways in overtime but could not find twine. Halfway through, a shot on from Nolan Stevenson sneaks under the arm with Caton Ryan swooping in to tap in the loose puck to complete the hat-trick and the comeback win.
Andrew Ballantyne made 45/49 saves in the loss.
