Silverbacks drop their first of the Pre-Season

Prince George, BC – The Silverbacks travelled into Prince George for a matchup against the Prince George Spruce Kings. It was the Silverbacks fifth game of the pre-season, as they entered tonight’s matchup with four straight wins. Carter Richardson got his second start of the pre-season between the pipes for the ‘Backs, as he faced off against Aidan Feddema at the other end of the ice.

The Spruce Kings came out of the gates flying on their home ice, as they registered the first seven shots on goal. Carter Richardson had to stand tall for the Silverbacks during the early period push, but kept things deadlocked early. The second half of the first period saw a different look, as the Silverbacks got their feet under them and turned the tables. They responded with eight unanswered shots of their own, but Feddema looked poised to keep this one tied. Two late powerplays in the first were killed by the Spruce Kings, as Charlie Banquier, and Luke Shraeder, both sat for two.

The second period was a different story as play started to open up early. Killian McGregor-Bennett opened the scoring on an early second period powerplay for the Spruce Kings, as he fired one past Richardson. Midway through the second, Salmon Arm tied things up on Connor Welsh’s first pre-season goal. It was the 12th different player to find the back of the net for the Silverbacks during the pre-season circuit. The Silverbacks continued to get into trouble shorthanded, as the Spruce Kings took advantage on their fourth attempt, when Jake Schneider scored late in the second to make it two to one.

Just over seven minutes into period three, Maddux Martin tallied his first of the pre-season to tie things up at two a piece. The game remained tied for only a couple minutes, as Austin Fraser buried one passed Richardson to once again grab the lead for the Spruce Kings. A late surge from the Silverbacks fell just short as Prince George handed the ‘Backs their first loss of the pre-season.

Join us at the Shaw Centre, on Saturday night, as the Silverbacks wrap up the pre-season with another clash against the Spruce Kings.
