Silverbacks dominate Smoke Eaters, 7-2

Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks hosted the Trail Smoke Eaters.

A hot start to the game has the SIlverbacks go up on top in the first period. Two and a half minutes in, a shot from the point has Mateu Späth swallow up a rebound and finds the back of the net, his 9th of the year, 1-0. 26 seconds later, Jack Toogood jumps on a loose puck at the half boards and fires it five-hole, his 6th of the season, 2-0. Salmon Arm has a powerplay attempt to end the period but can not take advantage.

The offense keeps rolling in the second period. Off the opening draw, 13 seconds in, it is Mateu Späth forcing the turnover in front of the net and scoring his second of the game, 10th on the season, 3-0. Shortly after, the Silverbacks get their second man advantage opportunity and it’s Anthony Preskar who goes short side for his 2nd of the season, 4-0. Back on the powerplay, it’s Preskar again, this time finding the loose puck in front and burying the rebound, 5-0. In the final five minutes of the second frame, Dylan Lariviere gets on the board for the Smoke Eaters when he breaks free alone in front of the net, 5-1. The second period ended physical when Smoke Eater, Zach Coutu, was handed a 5-minute major and a game misconduct for an illegal check to the head, giving the Silverbacks an extended powerplay to start the third period.

The goals don’t stop coming in the third period. Starting the third on the powerplay, Landon Mackie scores his 12th of the season, 2nd as a Silverback, extending the lead, 6-1. At the halfway mark, Cash Carter tips in a point shot to get another on the board for Trail, 6-2. Some more rough stuff in the final couple of minutes sees 7 total penalties handed out stemming from a big boarding penalty, Silverbacks return to the powerplay. Luke Lepper scores the Silverbacks fourth powerplay goal of the game, his 5th of the year, with a shot through traffic from the blue line, putting the game away, 7-2.

Daniel Dirracolo gets his 11th win of the season, stopping 22/24.
