Silverbacks clinch playoffs with a 3-1 win over Vernon

Salmon Arm, B.C. – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks traveled to Vernon to finish a home-and-home series against the Vipers.

Being aggressive in the first period, the Silverbacks jump out to the early lead. Four and a half minutes in, Richard Wonyeneh connects with Anthony Cardilli open in the slot for a one-timer, Cardilli’s 11th of the year, 1-0. Four minutes later, Cardilli finds the back of the net again when he follows his own rebound and tucks it far post for his 12th of the season, 2-0. Another strong period for the Silverbacks in the shot department, out shooting the Vipers 18-6.

Salmon Arm grabs a big insurance goal in the second period. In the first couple of minutes, Anthony Cardilli completes the hat trick by cutting the to the net and making a nice move to score his 13th of the year, 3-0.

The Vipers get on the board in the third period but fall short of the comeback. In the first 30 seconds, Shawn Leary steps up from the point with the puck and scores the Vipers first goal of the game, 3-1. Later in the frame, the Silverbacks have to kill off a 5 minute major as Donny Sisson is handed the kneeing penalty.

In the win, Daniel Dirracolo stops 28/29 shots faced and the Silverbacks punch their ticket to the playoffs.
