Silverbacks Acquire Tovell from the Hawkesbury Hawks

Salmon Arm, BC – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks have acquired 02’ Goaltender Matthew Tovell from the CCHL Hawkesbury Hawks in exchange for future considerations.

Tovell shared time in the OHL with the Windsor Spitfires, the LaSalle Vipers of the GOJHL, and finished off playing 20 regular season games for the Hawkesbury Hawks. He posted a 14-3-2 record, while also recording an impressive 1.94 GAA, and a .927 Save Percentage for the Hawks. Tovell finished the 2021/22 season with 63 games played combined from regular season and playoffs.

Silverbacks General Manager, Brooks Christensen said he is looking forward to bringing in another goalie to the mix ahead of training camp.

“Adding a goaltender with the games played experience that Matthew has, was what intrigued us about him. He had a strong year being heavily leaned on and will look to do the same coming here. We were very fortunate with our goaltending duo last year and looking to bring that same level of competition this season.”

Tovell will make the trip out to Salmon Arm in the coming weeks, and is looking forward to getting right into action.

“I’m very excited to be joining the Silverbacks this season, and playing for the city of Salmon Arm. The Silverbacks are a well-respected organization and known for developing their players. I can’t wait to get started, and help contribute towards winning a championship.

Please join us in welcoming Matthew and his family to the Silverbacks organization.
