S’backs Lose 4-2 To Trail | Host Victoria Tonight

The Silverbacks (8-10-0-0) host the Victoria Grizzlies (10-2-3-2) Saturday night at 7pm at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm. The second Silverbacks game of the weekend coming less than 24 hours after the ‘Backs dropped a 4-2 decision on the road at the Trail Smoke Eaters (8-8-0-1) on Friday night in Trail.

The Silverbacks played from behind after a scoreless first period. The home team opened the scoring in the second period and on the power-play with Hayden Hopkins penalized for interference. Riley Hayles tied the game 1-1 at 13:08 of the second, a point shot through bodies gave the first season Silverback defenseman his second goal of the season.

Trail outshot Salmon Arm 13-8 in the opening period, and tied 8-8 in the middle frame.

The home team regained the lead, 2-1 at 6:56 of the third.

Carson Bolduc’s fifth of the season tied the game 2-2 at 14:15. Bolduc and Elijiah Barriga with a shot from the face-off dot that beat Zach Dyment. But just over a minute later, the Smoke Eaters went ahead 3-2 at 15:33. Trail finished with an empty netter with 16 seconds remaining. The Smoke Eaters lead 10-9 on the shot clock in the third and 31-24 Trail total.

Brandon Kegler allowed three goals in his third consecutive start. The Silverbacks power-play finished 0-for-5, while the penalty-kill was 2-for-3.

The Smoke Eaters now lead the season series 2-0 after winning 4-1 at home on Wednesday, October 12th. The ‘Backs will visit Trail again on Tuesday, November 8th at 7pm. The Smoke Eaters first visit to Salmon Arm is set for Saturday, December 3rd at 7pm.

Victoria began it’s weekend with a 4-3 overtime victory over the Chilliwack Chiefs (10-5-0-3) on Friday in the Fraser Valley.
