S’Backs Host Coquitlam Tonight

The Silverbacks (2-4-0-0) begin back-to-back home games tonight (Friday) versus the Coquitlam Express (0-4-1-0) at 7pm at the Shaw Centre. And Salmon Arm will host the Trail Smoke Eaters (4-1-0-1) tomorrow (Saturday) night at 7pm.

The Silverbacks won back-to-back games last week at the Bauer BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack. Salmon Arm beat the Cowichan Valley Capitals (1-4-0-0) last Thursday, and Austin Chorney scored the winner as the Silverbacks got by the Surrey Eagles (1-4-1-1) 3-2 in overtime last Friday. The Silverbacks also faced former head coach Brandon West who is now behind the Eagles bench.

Coquitlam lost 5-3 to Cowichan Valley and the Express fell 7-2 to the West Kelowna Warriors (4-2-0-0) last week at the Showcase.

Josh Latta leads Salmon Arm in scoring with 2 goals and 4 assists in the first 6 games, while Rhett Kingston has 3 goals and 2 assists in his first 3 games.

Former Silverback, 20-year-old Mitch Newsome has 3 assists in 6 regular season games this season with Coquitlam.

The Silverbacks are 0-3 on home ice and have been outscored 25-17 overall. The Express are 0-4 on the road and have been outscored 23-12 overall. Salmon Arm’s power-play is working at 22-percent, while Coquitlam is 13-percent with the man-advantage. The Silverbacks penalty-kill is at 79-percent, and the Express are at 53-percent short-handed. Coquitlam has 62 penalty minutes, and Salmon Arm has 86 penalty minutes.
