Say Named BCHL Player of the Week

Burnaby, B.C. — Salmon Arm Silverbacks goaltender Owen Say has been named the FortisBC BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending May 2.

The ‘Backs netminder made three starts and won all three contests, stopping a combined 93 of 97 shots for a .959 save percentage and a 1.33 goals-against average.

On Wednesday, the London, Ont. native stopped 35 of 36 shots against the Vernon Vipers, leading his team to a 3-1 victory. He was named the first star of the game. In his next start on Saturday, Say was solid again in a rematch against the Vipers, making 26 saves as Salmon Arm cruised to a 6-2 win. Making his second start in as many days on Sunday, the 19-year-old stopped 32 of 33 shots to earn his third win of the week, this time a 4-1 decision over the West Kelowna Warriors. He was once again named the game’s first star.

Through 13 appearances this season, Say owns a 7-4-2 record, a .909 save percentage and a goals-against average of 2.72.

After this weekend’s play, the Silverbacks are one point back of Vernon for top spot in the Vernon Pod with three games each remaining.
