Salmon Arm extends their win streak to three games

Salmon Arm, BC – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks took down the Kings 6-5 for their third straight victory.

For the second and final team this season, the Salmon Arm Silverbacks (9-5-0-1) took on the Powell River Kings (4-10-1-1). It was also the third and final game of the Silverbacks three game home stand, they took their first two games of the three last weekend. The ‘Backs and Kings met at the BCHL Showcase back on October 19th. Salmon Arm came into the game with one of the second best home records in the league (7-1-0-0). The Kings came into the game on a three game losing streak.

It was once again Carter Richardson (2-1-0-0, 2.63 GAA, .920 S%) getting the start for the Silverbacks. He is coming off a 35 save and first star performance against Prince George. On the other end of the ice it was Kyle Metson (2-5-1-0, 3.83 GAA, .889 S%) getting the start for the Kings.

The Silverbacks came out of the gate flying as they continued the momentum that they picked up from last Saturday’s overtime victory. Just a few minutes into the game it was Nathan Mackie (10) getting on the board as he used Reid Varkonyi as a decoy on a two on one as he buried one over the pad of Kyle Metson to open the scoring. Just under a minute later it was Maddux Martin (4) extending the Silverbacks lead to two as he pounced on a rebound to make it 2-0. Midway through the opening frame it was Kings captain, Casey Aman (2) cutting the Silverbacks lead in half as he scored from the blueline on the man advantage. The ‘Backs stayed with at as they were able to restore their two goal lead as Brandon Santa Juana (5) was the recipient of a cross ice pass from Owen Beckner on the man advantage. The ‘Backs outshot the Kings 16-12 in the opening frame.

The second period started off with a different pace as the Kings turned up their pressure. They started off the middle frame with four straight goals. The opened the scoring in the middle frame just over two minutes in as Parker Lalonde (5) started the streak for the Kings. Karter McNarland (4), Maxim Potvin (4), and Anthony Lucarelli (5) added singles for the Kings all before the midway point of the period to extend their lead to two goals. Following the media timeout, Owen Beckner (8) was able to get on the board to pull the Silverbacks within one. Just over a few minutes later it was Ethan Ullrick (8) staying hot as he deflected home a nice pass from Ryan Gillespie to tie things up late in the period. The Silverbacks didn’t stop there as Will Lavigne (2) was able to beat Kyle Metson to restore the Silverbacks lead. Shots in the middle frame were 14-10 for the Silverbacks.

The third period was a different style as both teams seemed to settle down following the high paced first two periods. The lone entry on the scoreboard was a penalty midway through the period when Owen Desilets went to the box for tripping. The shots in the final frame were 9-6 for the Silverbacks as they took down the Kings by a final score of 6-5.
