Long Travelled Grizzlies Enter Shaw Centre

The Victoria Grizzlies won a 4-3 contest over the league leading Prince George Spruce Kings last night, but had to travel seven hours to get down to Salmon Arm for tonight’s contest.

The Silverbacks meanwhile are coming a 5-2 win over the rival West Kelowna Warriors, and were able to sleep in their own beds.

These two teams have met once already this season with Salmon Arm pulling out a 6-3 win down at the Showcase against the Grizzlies. It was a crazy first period in Chilliwack with the two teams scoring five goals combined. One of the main drivers in that game was Justin Wilson who had two goals and three assists, but he won’t be available for tonight’s game after taking a scary crash into the boards last night against the Warriors.

Two players to watch for Salmon Arm are Olson Werenka who had one goal and two helpers in the win earlier this year, along with Matthew Verboon who scored twice and added an assist in the game as well.

Coming off their win last night, the Grizzlies look to continue their hot play having won their last five games. They have outscored opponents 21-7 in that span. Having started the season with a four points in the first five games, Alex Newhook has taken off for the Grizzlies scoring nine points in the last five games. That streaked started immediately after the loss to Salmon Arm in the Showcase.
