Help For Halle Krawczyk

Salmon Arm B.C. — Twelve-year-old Salmon Arm gymnast Halle Krawczyk needs your help!

She is bravely fighting a rare type of cancer called Chordoma and she requires urgent surgery. The top doctors who specialize in Halle’s cancer exist at the University of Pittsburgh in the U.S., but the treatment is extremely expensive.

Halle is expected at minimum to be in hospital for 21 days, followed by several weeks of healing, before flying to Boston for Proton Beam Radiation.

The good news is that while Halle was initially denied MSP funding for surgery in Pittsburgh, that decision was reversed on Dec. 7. However, there are still all the added expenses of being outside Canada and off work for six months, alongside many medical related expenses that the family is expected to cover.

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks need your help in supporting Halle and giving her the gift of health this Christmas.

There are two main ways to get involved.

1) Please share her story on social media using #HandstandForHalle.

Kelowna native Kyle Blanleil was similarly diagnosed 16 years ago and was given just 5 years to live. But after getting the proper care, he made a full recovery. Kyle started #HandstandForHalle, which asks you to take a photo or video of you doing a handstand and then share it on social media. We want to raise awareness and we need YOU to help make this go viral! We are asking all BCHL teams and all communities to step up and help Halle get the care she needs.

On Tuesday, we shared an example, which can be viewed by clicking below.

2) Please donate what you can by visiting her GoFundMe page.

Salmon Arm Silverbacks ownership will be making a $10,000 donation to help Halle. No matter how big or how small, every donation will make a difference for the Krawczyk family!

Lastly, the Silverbacks player & staff will be walking through the community of Salmon Arm to show our support for Halle on Dec. 15. Due to the current COVID situation, we are not asking the public to join us, but rather we hope to spread the word through the community and help Halle in any way possible.
