FORMER SILVERBACK SIGNS DEAL WITH THE AHL

Salmon Arm, BC – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club reports that former Salmon Arm Silverback player Mark Zengerle signed a one-year contract with the AHL’s Grand Rapid Griffins on yesterday.

Zengerle of Rochester, NY amassed 162 points (37-125-162) in 151 games with the University of Wisconsin Badgers from 2010-2014. Last season, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound forward paced the Badgers with 44 points (10-34-44), leading the team in both scoring and assists. Zengerle was named the Big Ten tournament’s Most Outstanding Player in March, after scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to give Wisconsin the inaugural Big Ten tournament title.

Prior to turning pro, the 25-year-old put up 97 points (31-66) in 62 games in his first season in Salmon Arm in during the 2008-2009 season before potting 126 points (35-91) in 66 games during his second season 2009-2010.

Zengerle scored 8 goals and 14 assists for 22 points in 45 games with the Syracuse Stars in 07-08 before coming to the Shuswap.
